Three music institutes from Vadodara, Surat and Ahmedabad have jointly organised state-wide concerts at various cities in Gujarat from April 23 to 29 as part of a classical music festival.
The concerts, which are being held in association with Kolkata-based music institute ITC Sangeet Research Academy (SRA), are part of the Mangaldeep Sangeet Festival which is being celebrated in the state only for the second time, after being held here 12 years ago.

Ahmedabad's renowned music school Saptak, Vadodara's Komal Nishad and Surat's Swar Sangam are organising the Mangaldeep Sangeet Sammelan in association with SRA, which is the only music institute in the country that follows the age-old tradition of Guru-Shishya parampara in its original form. For the last 33 years, disciples and teachers have been staying together at the institute to pursue music.

Eminent musicians of the older generation, Ustad Rashid Khan, Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar and Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, who are tirelessly working to preserve and uphold the tradition of Indian classical music, are the patrons of the festival.

The second phase of the festival was held at Surat on April 25 with an opening performance by Aniruddha Bhattacharya (vocal) and Abir Hossain (sarod). Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty also performed at the two-day concert on Monday. Other performances include Sanjay Adhikary who played the sarod and a duet by vocalists Sandip Ghosh and Jyoti Goho.

Brajeshwar Mukherjee (vocal) and Sunil Kant Gupta will open the concert on April 26. Vocalist Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar and Sandip Ghosh (flute) will also perform on the second day of the concert in Surat.

The last phase of the Samelan will be hosted by Saptak in Ahmedabad on April 28 and 29 with Aniruddha Bhattacharya and Abir Hossain performing the first piece. Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty will also perform in the city on April 28. Sanjay Adhikary will play the sarod and also do a vocal rendition. Deborshee Bhattacharya, Sunil Kant Gupta, Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar, Sandip Ghosh (flute) and Jyoti Goho will also perform in the city during the two-day concert.
