Remand of hooch accused extended

The court of chief metropolitan magistrate GM Patel on Thursday sent five accused in the hooch case to police remand.

The five people are being held in Odhav and Kagdapith police station. Those who have been sent to police remand include Kanta Thakore, Kanta Vaghela, Lata Chunaram, Sunita Chunaram and Sailesh alias Bunty.

The court extended the remand of Thakore and Vaghela to seven days from three days. Similarly, the court also sent Sailesh alias Bunty to 14 days police remand. Bunty works with Hariom Kahar alias Haria one of the main kingpins in the hooch case.

The three are named accused in the hooch tragedy in Odhav. The court also extended the remand of Lata Chunaram to 10 days from four days.

The court also sent Sunita Chunaram to police remand of 10 days. Both Lata and Sunita are the main accused in the hooch tragedy. The remand of all five was extended as police sought more time to probe the case and find names of others involved. The police also said that they wanted to trace the financial and monetary support received by the accused.
