Life in the city and adjoining areas remained disrupted for the second day today as protests continued and people observed a spontaneous strike against the killing of an undergraduate student.

Shops, educational institutions, banks and semi-government institutions were closed, and vehicles were off the roads in view of the tense situation prevailing in the city and its adjoining areas.

Angry over the killing of the student, Asrar Mushtaq Dar, whose body was found yesterday, people at several places took to the streets demanding the arrest and punishment of the culprits.

Officials said stone pelting incidents were reported from Bemina, Parimpora, Batmaloo and Tengpora in central city.

Dar, a resident of Maisuma locality of the city, went missing on July 3 when the area witnessed a violent clash between police and a stone-pelting mob, protesting the killing of four persons in Baramulla town.

SSP, Srinagar, Syed Afhadul Mujtaba said police is working on various theories of the murder and investigations are in progress. "Preliminary investigations indicate that personal reasons were possibly behind the murder", he said.
