National Conference hails resumption of Indo-Pak talks

Welcoming the resumption of official talks between India and Pakistan, ruling National Conference today sought resolution of the Kashmir issue.

National Conference welcomes the ongoing foreign secretary level talks and prays for its success so that everlasting peace is established in the sub-continent, party general secretary Sheikh Nazir Ahmad said in Srinagar.

"NC has been asking leadership of India and Pakistan for the past 62 years to resolve the Kashmir issue," Ahmad said.

JKPCC president Saifuddin Soz also welcomed the resumption of talks between the two countries.

"We welcome the decision of the government to initiate talks with Pakistan despite many shortcoming from Pakistan side," he said.

Soz, a Rajya Sabha member, met prime minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi today and discussed among others the political situation in the state, a PCC spokesman told PTI.

Commenting on the foreign-secretary level talks, Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party, headed by jailed leader Shabir Ahmad Shah, said the success of the talks depends on the attitude of India.

"...With mounting pressure on India and Pakistan to improve their relations, the talks are being held as a formality to ward off international pressure. However, the success of the talks depend on the attitude of India," a statement released by acting chairman of the party Maulana Mohammad Abdullah Tari said.
