Naked man enters National Institute of Design hostel in Ahmedabad; molests student

In yet another incident that points to inadequate security in and around the country’s design mecca, a third-year girl student of the National Institute of Design (NID) was molested by a naked man on Tuesday night.

Despite several security personnel being present on the campus,
the mysterious man, said to be in his twenties, sneaked into the girls’ hostel on the premises, and molested the girl.

However, what is just as shocking is that NID authorities did not even bother to inform the police. It was the students who reportedly called the Ellisbridge police station soon after the incident took place. The police said that they have also nabbed a person in this regard, on the basis of the description given to them.

According to the FIR, third-year undergraduate student Sonam Mehta (name changed), of the film and video discipline, was discarding water from the second floor of the hostel, when the man clutched her from behind. When she turned around, she was taken aback on spotting a man in his twenties fully naked. The girl has stated in the FIR that the man molested her, and bit her on the nose when she started screaming for help.

The girl was admitted to Medisurge Hospital near Law Garden after the incident.

According to the police, the man probably sneaked into the hostel premises from the backyard. He made way into room number C-122, which is Sonam’s room.

According to the police, 21-year old Sonam, who is originally from Rourkela in Orissa, stated in her statement that as she started screaming for help, the man tried escaping with his clothes.
