A case of murder has been registered against the police officials involved in the alleged fake encounter of MBA graduate Ranbir Singh here.

The FIR under section 302 (murder) of the IPC was registered against all the policemen involved in the encounter of the Ghaziabad youth Ranbir Singh, SHO of Raipur police station where the case was lodged said yesterday.

An FIR has also been resgistered against two DSPs Ajay Kumar and GC Tamta on the basis of a complaint of Ranbir's father Rabindra Pal Singh that they roughed up his family members outside the place where the autopsy of the slain youth was being done.

22-year-old Singh was gunned down by police on Friday last. His autoposy report revealed that he was shot at close range and may have been tortured.

Uttarakhand chief minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank has said that his government is ready for a CBI probe into the death of the youth.

"I have full faith in the CB-CID. But if the family members of Ranbir want a CBI probe into the matter, we will not shy away from it also," Nishank said after meeting Ranbir's father yesterday.

Ranbir's father Ravinder Singh said he was not satisfied with the investigation conducted by the state government so far.

Seeking a CBI probe into the encounter, he said it is good if the Uttarakhand chief minister is ready for such a probe.

He said the exact number of policemen involved in the incident will be known only after the investigation. He said he has been told about the names of at least six policemen being allegedly involved in the episode and that he had added two names from his side.

Meanwhile, protests continued in Uttarakhand against the killing of Singh, who was from the Jat community which is seeking an independent CBI probe into the incident.

A condolence meeting is being organized tomorrow here in which leaders of various political parties and social activists are expected to take part. Later, they would march in a procession demanding a CBI probe.

Although police has maintained that the boy was killed after he snatched the service revolver of a sub-inspector, Ranbir's father has negated the police theory and said his son was innocent.

"I want justice because my son was killed in a fake encounter," he said soon after meeting the chief minister last evening.
