Modi cited examples of the debt-ridden GEB and the evening courts which have changed dramatically through active public
participation.
After recovering from Swine flu, CM Narendra Modi addressed the International Management Conclave-2009 through video conferencing from his official residence.
The conclave was organised at Indore by the Indore Management Association. Modi was to hand over IMA-Global Indian Leadership award to Ratan Tata and technocrat Sam Pitroda. However, he was not able to go there due to his poor health.
In his address to the delegates of the conclave, Modi said, "Development of a state cannot be done by the government alone; public participation is a must for it. Every political party should abandon the politics of vote bank and appeasement, and concentrate on development with the help of masses."
The CM cited the example of Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB), which was in loss of Rs2,500 crore. However, after unbundling of GEB in four companies, the situation has changed dramatically. Modi also gave the example of evening courts in the state which have reduced the backlog of pending cases.
