Militants gun down BSF jawan, wife

Militants barged into a BSF soldier’s house and fired indiscriminately killing him and his wife at Khandigali-Budhal in Rajouri on Sunday. Rajouri additional SP Shabir Chaudhary said, “Md Arif and his wife Malika Khatoon were killed. Their eight-year-old son Abrar suffered leg injuries.”

Arif was a former Hizbul-Mujahideen militant and had surrendered in the ’90s. The BSF absorbed him in 1999 and he was posted in Assam. “He had come home on leave and was scheduled to return today,” a police official said.

In another incident, a JCO of the army was killed and two soldiers injured in a powerful blast on the LoC at Saujia in Poonch. The army is investigating if it was an enemy shell or their own mine that went off.
