Students of Mudra Institute of Communication (MICA) did something different during this year's alumni meet. For the first time, they organised two new events. First was the 10-year reunion of their alumni and second was the first ever leadership summit.

While MICAns got nostalgic about their alma mater, they also delivered speeches during the leadership summit, and were awed by student's enthusiasm and concentration, something they missed during their days.

"Initially, MICA lacked discipline, it being a place of creativity, many interpreted it in different way, that they would get away by dressing in a particular fashion and the like, which I haven't seen this time. There was lot of vigor with which the event was organised and the discipline I saw during the summit, even when the going was tough, showed that certain amount of maturity had grown into students today as compared to the casualness during my time.

"MICA has a unique opportunity to produce creative leaders, and therefore, they can do far more human connected work than other marketing institutions could possibly do. Entrepreneurship is a norm and if MICAns don't exploit it, then I don't know who will," Ashutosh Wakankar, Director at Centre of Gravity, from MICA's 1999 batch, said.

While other speakers agreed about the increased enthusiasm and vigor with which students worked for alumni meets and summits, some even stated that young guns had lot of opportunity to go the unconventional way of earning their livelihood.

According to Arjuna award winner and former Olympian, Viren Rasquinha, a speaker at the summit, "Today's youth has enormous potential, which they are locking away. But institutes like MICA can help students unleash that potential which sometimes takes a leap into the unknown and takes a long trip. It is not always necessary to go down the conventional way, rather do what you are passionate about the most."

Talking about opportunities in sports for budding marketers, researchers and more, Rasquinha said that, "There is a growing trend of people opting for the alternative route, one of them being sports. I think those days of having honorary federations, wherein people know nothing about how to market sportsmen and a particular sport, has gone. Soon, there will only be paid professionals who will look after all aspects of sports. More so, sport is considered as a tool for companies to reach masses, as it cuts across all barriers. Figuring out how to market sports is not only a huge challenge but also a huge opportunity and we are definitely on the cusp of a breakthrough wherein there would be immense job opportunities in sports."
