"I heard a huge blast like sound when I was sitting in my office on the third floor, just opposite the bridge. When I looked outside, I saw a girl crying for help after being hit by a WagonR car, which came crashing from the wrong side. But we didn't realise that the car also hit a biker, who fell off the bridge from a height of about 20 feet. I hope he is alright," prayed Kaushal Shukla, a businessman having office near Shreyas overbridge after witnessing a fatal accident from his cabin. However, his prayers for the injured man went in vain, as the biker died during treatment at VS Hospital on Tuesday evening.

At 11:30am on the Shreyas overbridge near Dharnidhar, the driver of a WagonR car lost control while coming down the bridge and rammed into two vehicles coming from the opposite direction after jumping off the divider. The speeding car hit 22-year-old Vaidehi Prajapati going on her Activa and then hit 35-year-old Ramesh Kushwaha going on his Bajaj bike. The impact was so severe that the Kushwaha fell from the bridge and slammed on the road with his head down. Doctors at VS Hospital tried hard to save him, but he was declared dead in the evening.

After the accident, Ellisbridge police arrested the driver of the car, Nisarg Patel, 25, for rash driving. According to Patel, a designer by profession, he took his relative's car in the morning to go to Karnavati club, and then he was going towards his home in Vasana when the accident happened.

Police investigation revealed that while on his way to Vasana, the front tyre of WagonR car got burst when the car was coming down the bridge at a speed of 60 km/hr -70km/hr. Due to the tyre burst, Patel got panicked and pulled the hand brakes, after which the car jumped off the divider and went to the opposite lane.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident happened in a few seconds, leaving no time for those coming from the Dharnidhar.

"I saw blood coming out of ears of the man who fell off the bridge, while the front glass of car was broken after the girl's face smashed on it. The girl shouted so loudly that everyone in the building came out," said Shukla.

After the accident, local people and commuters helped the injured and sent them to hospital in auto to save time. After the accident, Patel also co-operated with them and did not try to flee. Luckily, Vaidehi, a resident of Maninagar, was discharged after being treated at Jivraj Mehta Hospital. According to her, she is pursuing Company Secretary course and was going to attend her tuition classes.

However, Kushwaha, a resident of Arihant Park in Vatva, lost his life during treatment. According to police, Kushwaha was working for a colour contractor and was going towards a construction site in Vejalpur.
