Madhya Pradesh to hold special session to debate development

A five-day special session of Madhya Pradesh Assembly will be convened to debate on development and public related issues.

However, the date for holding the session hasn't yet been finalised as the state government is eager to invite president Pratibha Patil to inaugurate it.

The decision of holding the session was taken at the business advisory committee meeting of the house which among others was attended by senior Congress MLAs Ajay Singh and Mahendra Singh Kalukheda yesterday, a member who attended the meeting said.

Though the state government wanted the special session of three days to entirely focus on agriculture, education and health issues, the opposition Congress MLAs didn't budge and pressed that it should be stretched for five days to discuss other issues as well, he said.

Assembly Speaker Ishwardas Rohani agreed to the Congress' demand of stretching the session for discussing law and order, water and electricity shortage issues but disagreed to the their demand for a debate on corruption issue, the MLA said.

A delegation comprising Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Rohani and the Leader of the opposition Jamuna Devi will shortly call on the President, to seek her consent to inaugurate the session after which the date of it will be announced.
