The famous Tagore Hall in Srinagar, the place of cultural activities for the last five decades in the state, will get a facelift.

A sum of Rs 1.5 crore would be spent over renovation of the hall, including adjustment of modern lighting system, advisor to the chief minister Mubarak Gul said.

Gul said the government is committed to preserve the cultural heritage of the state, adding that several initiatives have been initiated in this regard.

The preservation of heritage sites of all the three regions of the state is priority of the coalition government, he said adding adequate funds have been earmarked for this purpose and an internationally reputed heritage conservation consultant roped in for this.

Tagore Hall was built in 1958 to mark the Tagore Centenary Celebrations and it has been a home to the artists of Kashmir since then. But years of alleged neglect has affected the structure badly.
