Claiming that Uttarakhand is rapidly moving on the path of development, chief minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank today said investments almost doubled during the first three years of the BJP government as compared to the previous regime.

"During the first three years of the BJP government, the industrial investment was Rs 17,566.21 crore against Rs8,195.71 crore during the full five years of the Congress government," he told reporters on the eve of completion of one year in office.

He said the revenue during the BJP government climbed to Rs11,312.30 crore against Rs 10,639.97 crore in the previous regime headed by ND Tiwari.

Nishank said the Congress government could provide employment to only 72,883 people during its tenure compared to 91,443 which BJP provided in the first three years in power.

The growth rate in the state has now reached 9.5 per cent from 2.9 when the hill state was born a decade ago. Similarly, the per capita income in the state has now grown to Rs42,000 per annum from Rs 15,000 in 2000 when the state was carved out of Uttar Pradesh, he said.

He also criticised the central government for curtailing the Concessional Industrial Package by three years claiming it is affecting the investment scenario in the hill state.

Referring to the fresh hike in petroleum-products, he said the decision was "anti-people".

"We will look into the matter. We would certainly give some relief to the people," he told reporters here.
