Desperate for more acceptance to its demand at the national level, Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) has decided to seek Trinamool chief  Mamata Banerjee’s support for a separate Gor-khaland.

It wants to exploit her single-point agenda of opposing CPI(M).

GJM chief Bimal Gurung claimed there had been no development in Darjeeling during the Left Front’s 32-year rule in Bengal. “We will not tolerate negligence anymore and want to speak to the Trinamool chief,” he said. Gurung said there was nothing common between the cultures or languages of the Gorkhas and people of Bengal and therefore, there was no point in one state.

The Trinamool leadership, however, ruled out support. “Mamata Banerjee has already said the question of dividing Bengal does not arise,” a senior party MLA said.
