The state government has decided to build a ‘Gandhi Mandir’ in Gandhinagar, as part of the ‘Swarnim Gujarat’ celebrations planned in the state next year.

Chief minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday was the chief guest at a meeting of the members of the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI). During his speech on the occasion, the CM said the state government will build a ‘Mahatma Mandir’ in Gandhinagar. Modi further said that the Mandir will not be just a temple.

“We will also set up a convention centre on the temple premises which will be able to accommodate over 5,000 people. This apart, we will also make available all kinds of information and literature on Mahatma Gandhi for people interested in knowing more about Bapu’s life,” the CM said.

Also as part of Swarnim Gujarat celebrations, Modi would be inviting, on January 1, 2010, all the former MLAs, MPs and former chief minsters, to discuss the development of the state.
