A fire fighting personnel was killed and two officials, including a woman, were seriously injured, while fighting a major fire that broke out in an old building in the wee hours here today.
The leading fireman was killed while fighting the fire that broke out in the building at Chepauk around 00.50 hours, fire and rescue sources said.
Two other officials -- a woman Divisional Officer and a station manager -- were admitted in a private hospital with burns, the sources said.
The fire was put out, they said.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa condoled the death of the fire service personnel.
She also announced a solatium of Rs2 lakh to the kin of the deceased fireman, an official release said.
Besides, Rs25,000 and Rs10,000 respectively were sanctioned to the injured personnel, it said.
