Criminal gives ‘hungry’ cops the slip in Gujarat

In the wee hours of Wednesday, a man wanted in various cases of robberies escaped from police custody in Bagodara, some 40 km from Ahmedabad. In further embarrassment, all four police officials involved were arrested and booked in Bagodara police station for dereliction of duty.

According to police, Malkhan Singh was arrested by Jambua police in Madhya Pradesh. Singh was wanted in various cases of loot and robbery in Thangarh police station in Surendranagar district. He was being transferred to Surendranagar police station after some days in court custody. 

According to police sub-inspector KB Jhala at Bagodara police station, "At around 3:30 am on Wednesday, the police team arrived at a dhaba in Bagodara for refreshments. The accused was accompanied by four policemen. The cops left Singh handcuffed in the vehicle and by the time they came back, he vanished from the scene," he said. 

Jhala said that Singh somehow managed to free his hands from his handcuffs and ran away. The policemen did their best to find the accused but landed up in Bagodara police lock up themselves.

An FIR against all the four policemen was lodged.
According to DG Sarvaiya, police inspector at Surendranagar Local Crime Branch, the accused was wanted in a jewellery robbery case worth Rs15 lakhs in Thangarh.
