With Jharkhand coming under the Central rule after political parties failed to form an alternative government, Congress today alleged that BJP's lust for power led to the current situation.

"BJP is responsible for the situation (Central rule) in the state due to their lust for power. Its insistence that the chief minister should be from that party pushed the state into this situation," Congress spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed told PTI.
"Though Congress believes that the best political arrangement is a democratically-elected government, it did not go for it because Congress-JVM (P) alliance did not have the requisite numbers," he said.
Noting that the NDA ruled Jharkhand for close to eight years since the state was formed in 2000, Ahmed said the BJP "has to be blamed for the sorry state of affairs."
Asked whether the party would explore the chances of forming an alternative government in the state, another Congress leader said on the condition of anonymity that this cannot be ruled out but caution will be the key word given the flip-flops of political alignments in the tribal state.
"Congress was not, is not and will not be in a hurry to form a government there," said an AICC functionary when asked
whether the party can make any such move after the conclusion
of the coming Rajya Sabha elections in the state.
There are also talks that the party may suspend its efforts to form a government there till the conclusion of Bihar Assembly elections, likely to be held in a few months.
"This will give the party flexibility in choosing its allies," he said.
President Pratibha Patil earlier in the day accepted a recommendation of the Union cabinet for Central rule after Congress and BJP gave up efforts to form an alternative government in the state following the resignation of chief
minister Shibu Soren.
