The bail petition of the mother of New Delhi-based journalist Nirupama Pathak, found dead at her Tilaya home in a suspected case of honour killing, was rejected by a local court today.

Chief judicial magistrate N K Agarwal rejected the fresh bail petition by Sudha Pathak after she withdrew the previous petition yesterday to make a fresh appeal with additional inputs.

The court asked the police to carry on its investigation into the death with her mother in judicial custody.

Sudha was arrested and sent to judicial custody in connection with her 22-year-old daughter's death under mysterious circumstances on April 29.

The police investigating among other angles whether the incident was a case of honour killing have also filed a case of rape and abetment to suicide against Nirupama's New Delhi-based journalist boyfriend Priyabhanshu Ranjan, whom she was to marry, on the direction of the local court.
