There is a sense of discomfort among the who's who of India Inc after nearly 140 controversial telephonic conversations of lobbyist Nira Radia became public and they are now calling home ministry officials to know if their phones are also being tapped.

The intercepts which have come in public domain barely scratch the surface of nearly 5000-plus recordings done by investigators and will be used in framing charges against the wrongdoers, home secretary GK Pillai said in an interview to Wall Street Journal.

Pillai said the tapes made public contain "juicy elements" meant to "titillate" the media and "aren't really connected to the investigations" related to a tax-evasion probe.

"The investigation part is much more, which has not yet come out. The parts that have come out aren't really connected to the investigation," the Journal quoted him as saying.

Pillai told the newspaper that leakage has rattled the business community and several big leaders of industry are calling him to know if their conversations are also under surveillance.

But he said he was concerned about the leakage and has been awaiting the results of a probe into how these tapes become public.

Pillai was of the view that since all the tapes have been handed over to Supreme Court, they will become public in due course through a petition.

"You cannot do pick and choose. Everything will come out," he said.

On the second generation mobile telephony spectrum allocation investigations, Pillai said potentially illegal international fund transfers are being scrutinised closely.

The home secretary said that at any given point of time about 6000-8000 phones are tapped and only 3 to 5%are for corporate probes.
