The Andhra Pradesh government deferred a resolution on Telangana when speaker Kiran Kumar Reddy adjourned the house sine die, nine days ahead of schedule. The speaker adjourned the house amid slogan-shouting by pro-Telangana and pro-united Andhra MLAs. He then confabulated with deputy speaker N Manohar and chief minister K Rosaiah after which he adjourned the house sine die.

“There is no scope for getting a resolution done for the next three months at least,” a senior Congress MLA said.
“The speaker took a unilateral decision. He should also consult floor leaders before taking such a decision. It looks like the Congress wants to deliberately delay the resolution,” TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu said.

But even his party is trying to steer clear of Telangana as  Telangana MLAs are unhappy over the leadership changing its pro-Telangana stand.  “We took a pro-Telangana stand in 2009. But, after Chidambaram’s announcement, there was a sudden uproar in Andhra and Rayalaseema. For now, we will not take any stand,” Naidu said.

Rajagopal arrested

Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal was arrested twice on Monday. He planned to go on a fast-unto-death demanding immediate introduction of a resolution on Telangana in the assembly (which he believed would get defeated and block the Telangana plan).  On landing here, he planned to go on a padyatra to the assembly and was arrested. He was released on a personal surety.

Later in the evening, Rajagopal was bodily lifted from the Lal Bahadur Stadium, bang opposite the assembly, when he was planning a “platform for anyone to discuss importance of a united Andhra.”
