Finally, after a long wait Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC)’s staff selection committee on Saturday appointed two AMC officials — Dilip Gor and Arjav Shah — as deputy municipal commissioners, apart from five assistant commissioners. The city also got a chief fire officer when the committee promoted MF Dastur from his post of additional chief fire officer on Saturday.

The AMC committee headed by mayor Kanaji Thakore interviewed eight candidates for six posts of assistant commissioner in general category and two in reserved category. There were three candidates for two DyMC posts. The six assistant commissioners selected on Saturday are Parag Shah, Khanama Vishal, Bhatt Ramya, Bhandari Tejas and Patel Saurabh in general category and Dharmendra Herma in the reserved category.

Committee members said that all those selected as assistant commissioners will be trained in all departments for a year. The DyMCs were, however, asked to take charge immediately, though Gautam is yet to assign their zones. Before the meeting, the civic body was fighting manpower crunch as two posts for DyMCs were lying vacant for long.
Apart from this, the committee also promoted Rajesh Bhatt to the post of additional chief fire officer from his post of deputy chief fire officer.

The meeting also decided to promote Vinod Thakkar to the post of deputy city engineer. Also, deputy secretary Swati Patel was removed from the post after the vigilance report of fraud in getting jobs in AMC, was proved true.
