Woman complains of physical abuse by new year revellers

A couple complained to the police of the young woman's gold chain being snatched and the duo physically abused by members of a local club during New year celebrations at New Town in North 24 Parganas district on Thursday.

DCDD of Biidhannagar Commissionerate Kankar Barui said the woman and her husband on Thursday lodged a complaint with the New Town police station after her medical test at Bidhannagar Hospital earlier in the day.

The lady complained of she and her husband accompanying her been beaten up and her gold chain snatched by the club members during an altercation last midnight. The complainants told the police, the young woman was looking for her father outside the club when loud music was being played for new year's party and some of the club members allegedly entered into a verbal spat with the duo.

This soon led to physical assault as the club members joined in beating them, she alleged. Police were investigating the incident. Details of the medical test were not known.
