"The youth has already united on this issue and National Conference will forcefully fight till the Government is forced to withdraw this move. We will not allow it to implement", former minister and senior vice president NC Surjit Singh Slathia said today.
Opposition National Conference (NC) on Tuesday said it would not allow the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed government to go ahead with the implementation of the proposed "contractual employment policy" as it would further deteriorate the unemployment problem in the state. "The youth has already united on this issue and National Conference will forcefully fight till the Government is forced to withdraw this move. We will not allow it to implement", former minister and senior vice president NC Surjit Singh Slathia said today.
Slathia was speaking to reporters after submitting a memorandum to Governor NN Vohra through District Development Commissioner Samba Sheetal Nanda at Vijaypur. He said the people were constrained to invoke the attention of the governor as the coalition government has been most "lackadaisical" and "nonchalant" towards the problems of the people.
Expressing apprehensions on the new job policy, the memorandum stated, "We express our deep concern and anguish over the insistence of the present dispensation in bringing about an Ordinance on New Recruitment Policy, despite being sagaciously returned by the Governor in the recent past". The memorandum read that this move was a "brazen attempt" to bypass the well established mechanism of recruitment agencies like Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission and State Subordinate Recruitment Board. "This is a calculated move to undermine the constitutional role of these institutions, which is fraught with danger of encouraging corruption, nepotism and exploitation of unemployed educated youth" it read.
Demanding an immediate rollback of the proposal, the NC memorandum further read that the policy, if implemented, would lead to politicisation of recruitment and hence cause frustration among the talented and educated unemployed youth. Slathia also accused the present government of showing "immense degree of insensitivity by not coming to their rescue of the farmers".
"No survey has so far been carried out and no relief provided to hapless farmers. We demand Rs 24,000 compensation per acre in lieu of damaged crops, free ration for six months to the suffering families, fodder for livestock," it read. While welcoming the decision of setting up of an AIIMS in Kashmir, Slathia said that a similar facility be provided to Jammu as well. "We strongly deplore the unfortunate and unwarranted controversy generated over it (AIIMS issue) and sincerely feel the need for one more such facility for the Jammu region, keeping in view its population, topography and accessibility to the adjoining Himachal and Punjab states" he said.
