Intensifying its operations after the attack on Amarnath yatris, the security forces in Kashmir killed three terrorists in a chance encounter at Wanihama village in Anantnag district on Monday evening.

The police said the encounter started when the security forces were on the road and the terrorists were approaching from the opposite direction in Wanihama village. On seeing the forces, the terrorists opened heavy fire, which was immediately retaliated, resulting in the three terrorists being killed on the spot.

"In a chance encounter three terrorists killed near Anantnag by joint team of the security forces. Their identities are being ascertained. Well done! (sic)" tweeted Director General of Police Dr Shesh Paul Vaid.

The operation against the terrorists comes hours after an Army convoy was attacked near Bijbhera in south Kashmir's Anantnag district. "Terrorists fired on the Army convoy near Bijbhera. There was no Army casualty," said a defence spokesman.

This is the third successful operation against terrorists in the last one week. Three top Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants were killed by the security forces in a day-long operation at Satoora forests in Tral on Saturday. One of the slain terrorists was later wrapped in a black ISIS-like flag during the funeral prayers at Tral.

On July 12, the security forces killed three top Hizbul Mujhadeen militants, including one of the accused in the lynching of Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohommad Ayub Pandit, at Redbug village in central Kashmir's Budgam district.
