Amid terror attack in the Arnia sector, prime minister Narendra Modi said the terrorists have got frustrated because the people have defeated the bullet and introduced ballot in the strife torn Jammu and Kashmir.
"Terrorists are frustrated. They feel that how come despite carrying out bomb blasts, firing and gunning down people, the power of democracy is alive. And that is why they are frustrated," said Modi while addressing an election rally at Udhampur. More than 70 per cent people defied militants and separatists, and exercised their franchise in the first phase of elections in 15 assembly constituencies spread over seven districts of Jammu and Kashmir on November 25.
"I want to congratulate the people from the bottom of my heart who voted in large numbers and made democracy a winner. For the first time people have got the powers and strength that they suppressed the bullet and introduced ballot," he said.
Praising the people of Jammu and Kashmir for reposing faith in democracy, Modi said they (people) are neither going to bow nor get terrified and shape up the future of Jammu and Kashmir in a democratic way. "While keeping their morale high, the people will shape up the future of Jammu and Kashmir through democratic means. I congratulate the people (for voting). It is not from Modi but from 125 crore countrymen. Entire nation congratulates them. World has got a message that what is in the hearts of J&K. You have done a big thing", he said
Even as Modi praised the people, another civilian was killed at Arnia on Friday taking the death toll to 12 in the gunfight between the newly infiltrated militants and security forces near the International Border. "Encounter is over.
All the four militants have been killed. They are Pakistani who had infiltrated. Identification of the ultras is being ascertained. Five civilians were also killed", said Devendra Singh, sub divisional police officer, RS Pora.
The encounter had started on Thursday when a newly infiltrated group of fidayeen militants stormed into vacant army bunkers near the International border (IB) and engaged the security forces in a fierce gunfight.
