Nationalist Congress Party state president Sunil Tatkare met Navi Mumbai strongman Ganesh Naik in a bid to convince him not to leave the party and join Bharatiya Janata Party.

The meeting took place over the weekend at Bavkhaleshwar temple in MIDC area. According to a source, "Naik seems to have made up his mind to leave NCP and he reportedly conveyed the same to Tatkare in clear terms. So, there was no major result that could have emerged from this meeting." Meanwhile, Naik has been lying low for sometime and is expected to announce his next move in the days to come.

The former guardian minister's move is being made keeping in mind the upcoming civic elections in April, where the Naiks have a single-handed majority. The Naiks had received a drubbing during the Lok Sabha elections with Sanjeev Naik losing out to Shiv Sena's Rajan Vichare and Ganesh Naik facing defeat in the assembly polls against BJP's Manda Mhatre.
