Unmoved by the Election Commission's decision not to heed to his claim over the party and its symbol, rebel Janata Dal (United) leader Sharad Yadav on Wednesday announced calling his party's national council meet in Delhi on October 8.

Citing lack of documents to support, the Commission had sent a letter to Sharad Yadav faction about its inability to take cognisance of their claim. The EC's decision had come in response to Yadav faction approaching the Commission on August 25, staking claim over the party's election symbol and counter claims by Nitish Kumar that the sizeable support of MLAs, MLCs, MPs and national council members is with them.

However, taking the setback in stride, the former JD(U) chief on Wednesday said "one does get hurt in a fight against the mighty."

"I am fighting against a mountain, a wall. I am well aware that I will get hurt," he said adding that his colleagues have called a national council meeting on October 8 in which he would be participating.

Virtually challenging his old comrade Nitish Kumar, Yadav said that he would continue to fight for "truth and democracy" asserting that he would prove that the real JDU was with him that will emerge more powerful in due course of time.

The move is being as an attempt by Yadav to launch his next political journey with a new vigour with the help of RJD and some other opposition parties. Yadav, however, looks set to be disqualified along with another rebel MP Ali Anwar from the Rajya Sabha on account of a request letter sent to the Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu by the newly appointed JDU's party leader RCP Singh seeking their disqualification from JDU for indulging in anti-party activities.
