Sources said that a number of visiting cards of Bandopadhyay had been recovered from the offices of the ponzi firm Rose Valley Group which they believe had been used to fetch money from the group in a unique fashion.
Officials of CBI interrogated both arrested TMC MPs -- Tapas Paul and Sudip Bandopadhyay – on Thursday in several rounds at their office in Bhubaneswar and said that several leads have been found.
Sources said that a number of visiting cards of Bandopadhyay had been recovered from the offices of the ponzi firm Rose Valley Group which they believe had been used to fetch money from the group in a unique fashion. "From what we know, certain people would come to the Rose Valley office with the MP's card and his signature on the flip side and would get packets of money from the reception in exchange," said a CBI official.
He also said that Bandopadhyay had, in writing on his letterhead, recommended the authorities to a premier school in south Kolkata for the admission of Kundu's son and later, the school had accepted a donation of Rs 71 lakh from Kundu. Officials of the school have also been summoned.
Upon quizzing the two MPs, names of many other influential people have surfaced of which the CBI is preparing a list. They will likely be summoned in the near future. Among them, the CBI was zeroing in on a reputed heroine of the Bengali film industry. Officials of the Central investigating agency have documents of an agreement between Rose Valley owner Goutam Kundu and Singapore-based businessman husband of the filmstar. "We have evidence that suggests the two had converted black money into white, to the tune of Rs 300 crore on behalf of Kundu, through the hawala route. The group had also sponsored several foreign trips for the heroine who was accompanied by Kundu. Preparations are underway to summon the businessman next week and probably the filmstar after that," the official said.
Knowing the heroine's proximity to the highest level of the corridors of power in the state the CBI was gathering all sorts of evidence before they summoned the duo.
Recently, the heroine and Kundu's wife have applied for a visa to visit the USA and CBI officials have started working towards the cancellation of the visa.
