DMK working president MK Stalin on Wednesday clarified that there was no politics involved in Prime Minister Narendra Modi meeting his father and party chief M Karunanidhi as it was only a courtesy call.
Leading a demonstration against the Modi's demonetization move on its first anniversary in Madurai, Stalin said that some wanted to create confusion over Modi calling on Karunanidhi who is recovering from illness but it would not succeed.
Modi's unscheduled visit to Karunanidhi's Gopalapuram residence on November 6 when he arrived here to attend a couple of private function set off speculation of a political realignment ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
Stalin said that he had clarified on Monday itself that Modi had met Karunanidhi as the DMK president was a senior Dravidian leader and that he was taking rest after recovering from old age illness.
"When the reporters asked me whether the meeting had any political importance, I told them clearly that Modi did not come for politics, we are also not ready to use him anytime for politics," he explained to put to rest all the speculation of the political realignment. He noted that Modi was here to attend private events and expressed his wish to meet "our leader". He said that he returned early from Sharjah in Dubai when he was informed about the PM's visit.
DMK leader said that Modi invited the 93-year-old Karunanidhi to stay at his Delhi residence. "He (Modi) said they won't allow you (Karunanidhi) to take rest here as there would be a stream of visitors. He also invited (Karunanidhi) to come to his Delhi residence for treatment," Stalin said.
"Therefore this is humanitarian, and beyond politics," he said.
Stalin said his party announced deferring the 'Black -Day' protests in eight districts including Chennai only because of rains.
