No clue about Prof G N Saibaba's health: Family

Three days after the wheel chair-bound Delhi University Professor G N Saibaba surrendered before the Nagpur Central jail , pursuant to the High Court's rejection of his regular bail in the alleged Maoist link case, his family members said they have no clue about his present health condition.

Talking to dna, Saibaba's wife Vasantha said "because of Christmas holiday and subsequent weekend, no one was allowed to either talk or meet Saibaba in the jail. I have requested our lawyer in Nagpur to meet him and inform about his health condition."

Vasantha has already expressed her apprehension about further deterioration of her husband's health in jail due to discontinuation of his treatments for different ailments.

She said her husband is 90 percent disabled and before his arrest both of his hands were working properly but during his incarceration for more than 14 months in the high security 'anda' cell in Nagapur jail, his left hand now barely functioning.

The English professor needs physio-therapy for his physical disability and also has bee getting treatment for high blood pressure, heart ailment and also for the stones in both of his kidneys and the gall bladder.
He also needed frequent treatment over his spinal problem .

When contacted, Saibaba's lawyer Surendra Gadling said, "My colleague has met Saibaba in jail. We want to seek the trail court to direct the jail authorities to ensure Saibaba gets all necessary treatments in view of his health conditions."

Last week, the high court has rejected Saibaba's plea for regular bail and directed him to surrender within 48 hours.

In June last year, the Mumbai police had arrested him for his alleged links with Maoists, after questioning him more than four times at his residence. A division bench headed by Bombay high Court Chief Justice had granted interim bail.
