Indoreans developing a penchant for trendy sports cars, bikes

Automobile experts claim that the trend has grown by leaps and bounds in the past few years.

Having seen premium cars from renowned companies, now luxury loving Indoreans are all set to develop a taste for trendy sports bikes and cars, claim automobile dealers of the city.

The culture of sports bikes and cars which till now was nurtured in metros slowly but steadily is making inroads in tier II cities like Indore.

The penchant for sports cars was visible recently as German luxury car maker Audi had organised two-day test drive event in the city.

Senior Manager (Marketing) Navin Birla from Audi Indore told DNA that total 170 speed freaks participated in the test drive and preliminary inquiries from a dozen participants has translated into serious purchase deals.

He added that at least 3 sports cars would be seen running on the city roads by Diwali.

Gaurav Anand, managing director Audi Indore also claimed that sports car culture would establish itself in the city soon. "The city has potential buyers for at least half a dozen sports cars per annum," he claimed.   

Mehta Automobiles, the sole automobile dealer dealing in Hyosung sports bikes ranging from Rs 2.85 lakh to Rs 6.10 lakh, has sold 22 bikes in the last two years or so in the city and around 48 across the state.

Pradip Dubey, manager Mehta Automobiles said that craze for these modern machines is going day-by-day.  He added that the demand for five models of Hyosung bikes including GT252R, GT650R, AquilaPro650, ST7 and GT650N is intact among city youths.

Besides, the city youths have remained hooked to sports bikes for long and the trend has just grown by leaps and bounds in the last few years. Automobile experts claim that city youths are in possession of 50 such bikes brought from metros.

According to data compiled by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam), bike sales in the 250-500cc category have jumped 35 per cent to 1,20,694 units in 2012-13 despite the economic slowdown and an increase in fuel costs. 

Real estate developer plans to form bikers’ group: Taking the craze for sports bikes in the city to next level, city-based real estate developer Manoj Varghese has bought modern Harley-Davidson bike--worth Rs 21 lakh. An ardent biker since his young days, Manoj has scaled 6630 metre height of Mount Everest and travelled till Tibet and China. He plans to establish Harley Owners'' Group (HOG) formed in US, UK and others counties, at Indore.

"There are several misconceptions about biking in the city. Youths meet with accidents due to haphazard riding, not due to bikes," he opined. He added that he has contacted Registrar Firms and Society for establishing the bikers' group in Indore.
