While the world and its favourite media persons have been going ballistic shedding tears over the death of the 93-year old performing maverick Pran, nothing has been heard from, or of, Manoj Kumar.
The two were very close friends and Pran always acknowledged his debt to Manoj Kumar for changing the colour of his screen image from black to white in Upkar. The two veteran actors remained friends over the years. So where was Manoj Kumar when his friend passed away?
Apparently, the actor was shell-shocked on hearing of Pran’s demise and has apparently not emerged from his home or even from his bedroom ever since he heard of Pran saab’s going away.
Says a close long-standing friend of Manoj Kumar, “I tried getting in touch with Manoj saab after I heard the news of Pran saab’s death. I know how close they were. But all his home numbers were unreachable. Manoj saab doesn’t carry a cellphone. So I had no option but to drive down to his bungalow. At the main entrance, I was told I couldn’t meet him and that Manoj saab would be attending Pran Saab’s funeral on Saturday. However, Manoj saab didn’t keep that appointment.”
While the generally-accessible
veteran actor-director remains inaccessible over the weekend, a member of his family confirms Manoj Kumar has not taken Pran’s death well. Manoj Kumar needs to start his next film on the subject of parentage and DNA reports apparently inspired by veteran politician ND Tiwary’s paternity dispute with a young man claiming to be his son.
