Thala Ajith’s Vedalam has turned out to be quite a blockbuster. Directed by Siruthai Siva, the film has been breaking records since its Diwali release. The movie had a record-breaking collection on the first two days of release, making Rs 27 crore.

The latest feather in its cap is that it is the only movie after Superstar Rajinikanth’s Endhiran to make Rs 50 crore at the box office in its first week in Tamil Nadu. Endhiran made about Rs 60 crore at the box office in the first week in Tamil Nadu, while Vedalam is reportedly at Rs 50 crore. Since the Ajith film has tax exemption, the movie’s gross collection of Rs 50 crore is its net collection as well.

Despite the heavy rains in the state, occupancy has reportedly been 100% across all screens in the state and many people have gone in to see the movie more than once.

Rajinikanth’s Endhiran released in 2010 and it has taken Ajith’s Vedalam in 2015 – four years later – to get anywhere close to the record first week collections in Tamil Nadu.

However, we will know the exact collection figures of Vedalam only after the lifetime collection figures are released. At this point, the movie looks like it’s going to break more box office records in the coming days.
