The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has granted Pakistani singer-composer Adnan Sami a three-month extension of his visa. Sami had moved an application before the ministry following the expiry of his visa on October 6.

“Sami was granted three months’ extension by the MHA from October 6, the date when his visa expired,” confirmed Sanjay Shintre, deputy commissioner of police, Special Branch (SB-1). On Thursday, the SB office received a fax from the MHA informing them about the three-month visa extension given to Sami.

Sami, who has been staying in India for the past several years, was issued notice on Tuesday by the Mumbai Police, which sought an explanation from him for overstaying in the country and about the efforts being made by him for the renewal of his visa within a week. Sami’s visa was valid from September 26, 2012, to October 6, 2013.

After the notice, Sami had informed the city police in writing that he had already moved an application before the department concerned of the MHA for visa extension.
