Tiwary, who was the first one to go under the hammer in the Jaipur event, unfortunately, found no buyers, bringing back the 2016 scenario. The 33-year-old Bengal captain has played in all the 10 editions of the IPL, starting from the inaugural season in 2008.
He has represented franchises like Delhi Capitals (earlier Delhi Daredevils), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) and Kings XI Punjab (he was part of that team in 2018) but the fact that no team was interested to pick him this season not only shocked him but also hurt.
Although Tiwary did not have a great season in 2018, where he had scored just 47 runs in five matches at an average of 15.66 with the highest score of 35 but he certainly had decent performance for RPS in the 2017 edition when he scored over 300 runs in 15 matches and played in the final.
It was also his second final after the 2012 edition which he played for KKR and hit the winning runs in a high-scoring title clash against Chennai Super Kings.
Cricketing gods have been ruthless with him quite a few times so far in his career. After scoring his maiden One-Day International (ODI) hundred, he was dropped from the Indian side for the next 14 matches. Along with lashing out at the IPL franchises for selection policy of the teams, Tiwary also took a dig at the BCCI for being unfair with him when he was doing well with the willow in the blue jersey.
"Wondering what went wrong on my part after getting Man of the Match award when I scored a hundred 4 my country and got dropped for the next 14 games on a trot ?? Looking at d awards which I received during 2017 IPL season, wondering what went wrong ???" tweeted Tiwary.
Tiwary was sold to the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) for a USD 6,75,000. In 2010, he was traded off to the KKR for Moises Henriques. In the subsequent edition, his value had declined, and Tiwary was reclaimed by KKR for USD 4,75,000 and he stayed with them for a few seasons where he also won the title in 2012.
