The Adugodi police have arrested the culprits in the Rs1.93 crore burglary that took place in the flat of an industrialist on November 16.

After investigating for over a month, they nabbed Mohammed Kamran Khan and his accomplice Syed Sadiq.

The former was working as a manager at the industrialist’s office in Koramangala for the past five years.

Mohammed Asif, the owner of a steel factory, had been to Bellary to celebrate Bakrid when the incident took place at his flat in Acropolus apartment in Adugodi, said deputy commissioner of police (South) Sonia Narang.

Asif had asked Kamran to take care of the house and supervise the repair work at the house.

Khan took advantage of Asif’s absence and hatched a plan to loot the house with help from one of his friend Ajmatula Khadari Sailani alias Babaji from Doddaballapur. The duo took the help of Aleem Pasha, Fareed alias Sageer Pasha and Sadiq to decamp with jewellery and cash worth Rs3.15 lakh.

Babaji, who projected himself as a pious person, took the lead in the crime, the police said.

Duplicate keys were made so that nobody suspected the direct involvement of Kamran.

“When they opened the locker they were so happy that there was something extra than what they expected. The locker had gold, diamond, platinum worth Rs1.9 crore and also cash of Rs3.15 lakh. After the operation, Khan stayed in the house as if he never knew anything about the theft. The stolen jewellery was with Pasha, Fareed and Sadiq to sell it in jewellery shops in other districts,” said Narang.

The family returned on November 21 only to find the whole flat cleaned up. They lodged a complaint with the Adugodi police.

Some of the jewellery was sold in Salem and Doddaballapur, the police said. All the missing jewellery and cash amounting to Rs1.93 crore has been recovered.

A Mahindra Scorpio car used in the offence is also seized. “We are yet to arrest Babaji, Pasha and Fareed,” Narang said.
