Assembly Speaker KG Bopaiah’s functioning has come under criticism once again, with former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy questioning the delay in accepting the resignation of former minister Sriramulu.

“It is a week since Sriramulu submitted his resignation to Speaker Bopaiah, but he has not accepted the resignation so far. Instead of completing the formality, he is deliberately delaying the process to convince Sriramulu to withdraw his resignation,” said Kumaraswamy.

Recalling as to how Bopaiah accepted the resignation of Congress and JD(S) members when they were lured by BJP under Operation Lotus, Kumaraswamy accused Bopaiah of double standards in his functioning.

Meanwhile, Sriramulu said in Bellary that he would meet Bopaiah to clarify that he did not quit under pressure. “I will meet the Speaker soon with relevant records to provide clarifications,” said Sriramulu

He expressed his displeasure at the Speaker’s delay in accepting his resignation, stating that he had not faxed or mailed his resignation letter. “I have personally handed over the resignation letter to the Speaker. It is clear that I was not under any pressure,” added Sriramulu.

Earlier, Bopaiah had sought clarifications on Sriramulu’s resignation as the latter had said he was pained by the Lok Ayukta report on illegal mining that indicted him and he resigned the assembly membership as a result. Bopaiah pointed out that before accepting Sriramulu’s resignation, he wanted to get a convincing reply from Sriramulu that he had not resigned under pressure or threat.
