A month after he tendered his resignation from assembly membership, former minister and close associate of the Bellary Reddy brothers, Sriramulu, is rocking the BJP boat in the state with his friends by launching fresh lobbying for his induction into the ministry.

Chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda was forced to hold an emergency meeting on Sunday with state party president KS Eshwarappa, former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa and RSS leaders to discuss the challenge that is staring him in the eye after a delegation of Bellary BJP MLAs led by BJP member of Lok Sabha J Shanta met him and made a strong plea for re-induction of Sriramulu into the cabinet.

The meeting also discussed the issue of convincing Sriramulu to withdraw his resignation, which has not been accepted so far by speaker KG Bopaiah.

According to sources, BJP MLAs from Bellary have conveyed the message that Sriramulu could be convinced to withdraw his resignation only if he was re-inducted into the ministry. Chief minister Sadananda Gowda denied reports of any pressure from Bellary MLAs for a berth in the ministry for Sriramulu.

The BJP leadership had showed the doors to chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, ministers Janardhana Reddy, Karunakara Reddy and Sriramulu as they were indicted by the Lok Ayukta report on illegal mining.

Fresh lobbying by the boys from Bellary has put the chief minister in a quandary as the BJP national leadership has taken a strong stand against those indicted by the Lok Ayukta report. The meeting discussed the likely fallout on the fragile BJP government if Sriramulu’s wish was not fulfiled. However, it failed to arrive at a consensus and preferred to leave the decision to the party high command.
