Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s visit to the state has set off reports of migration of a group of BJP MLAs, loyal to former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, to Congress party.

Although Yeddyurappa denied reports of his defection to Congress or NCP, speculation was rife within Congress  about mediators from Yeddyurappa’s group holding talks with Congress leaders.

BJP MLA Shivananda Naik is said to have taken the lead in opening the communication channel with Congress. Sources also said that about 24 BJP MLAs are planning desert the party, if Yeddyurappa is not reinstated as the chief minister. Meanwhile, the BJP high command is awaiting Supreme Court stand on CBI probe against Yeddyurappa.
