Commuters affected by traffic congestion at Sirsi Circle can heave a sigh of relief.

The high court, on Wednesday, gave its green signal to the works on the Sirsi Circle-Agara signal-free corridor between Agara Lake and Sirsi Circle via Lalbagh Fort Road.

Citizens' Action Forum and others had filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the high court seeking its direction to stop the construction of the underpasses and flyovers at junctions on Sarajapura Road, St Johns Hospital Road, Koramangala 100ft Road, Koramangala 80ft Road and Jakkasandra as part of the Sirsi-Agara signal-free corridor.

The Bangalore Development Authority's (BDA) counsel, on Wednesday, submitted to the high court that if the work was stopped, people would face traffic congestion at Sirsi Circle.
Signal-free corridors are required for smooth traffic flow and the work will be completed in 18 months, the counsel said.

The division bench headed by chief justice Vikramajit Sen gave the green signal to begin the work on the signal-free corridor and adjourned the case to May 29.
