After the launch of the centre that promises time-bound delivery of government services, Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda, on Thursday, said he would increase the number of services covered under the Citizens’ Charter Bill in the coming days.

Gowda inaugurated the programme by inviting a common man from the crowd at the function in Jayanagar and asking him to light the lamp, sending a signal that the common man had been empowered with the bill.

Gowda said the programme would give relief to people, who have suffered enough harassment at the government offices.
The CM said that at Janata Darshan, nearly half of the people approach him regarding issues related to civic facilities. Gowda said he is aware that the people came to him as a last resort, after failing to get the job done elsewhere. With the centre promising time-bound service delivery, he said he hoped the number would come down.

Gowda said people should expect speedy work as the government officers would have to pay fine on a daily basis for delays. Also, he said the erring officer would face disciplinary action besides paying fine, which ranges from Rs20 to Rs500 per day.

On the occasion, MP Ananth Kumar pulled up the Centre for not implementing Citizens’ Charter Bill, a brainchild of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, across the country.

All BJP-ruled states have adopted the bill for the welfare of the people.  The city MLAs were conspicuous by their absence during the inauguration. Except Jayanagar MLA BN Vijay Kumar, no other MLA was present.

In a possible allusion to the MLAs’ absence, Gowda remarked that even as an ambitious programme was taking off, people were not clapping as they were tired of clapping at many government programmes held earlier.

“It is my responsibility to get the clapping from the public by delivering services,” he added.
