The group of MLAs that claims it has been loyal to the party all along met under the leadership of MLA CT Ravi in Bangalore on Wednesday and made it clear that they did not want to wait any longer to get a cabinet berth .
The meeting came a day before chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda is scheduled to meet party national president Nitin Gadkari in Delhi. It is being seen as a pressure tactic to force the party bosses to give green signal to cabinet expansion.
Further, the MLAs decided to urge the party leadership to relieve senior leaders who are ministers since the BJP-JD(S) coalition government and ask them to work towards strengthening the party.
A senior MLA who attended the meet pointed out that recently four Union ministers offered to step down to work to strengthen the Congress. On the same lines, the MLA said senior BJP leaders in the state should be asked to work at the grassroot level.
Another senior leader expressed displeasure with the party for ignoring long-time loyalists and rewarding those who defected from other parties. “We have begun to doubt if party loyalists will have any future,” he said.
He added that 49 MLAs had already signed the memorandum seeking cabinet expansion and another 29 MLAs were about to join. “We will shoot letters to BJP national president and other senior leaders, conveying our demand.”
Caste and regional balance should be maintained while expanding the cabinet, he added.
