The BJP’s much-hyped two-day brain-storming session, which began on Friday, came to an abrupt end within two hours on Friday and this left many BJP MLAs unhappy.  Many senior leaders expressed their anger over the abrupt ending of the session, succumbing to the blackmail tactics of former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa.

The Chinthana Manthana session was supposed to deliberate the issues dogging the BJP. The state unit had invited party president Nitin Gadkari to resolve the issue of leadership and put an end to Yeddyurappa’s antics. It is reported that Yeddyurappa’s camp, which got a whiff of the central leadership’s intention to continue with DV Sadananda Gowda as chief minister, planned to boycott the brain-storming session. To avoid an embarrassment, the session ended barely after about two hours.

Senior leaders, including Jagadish Shettar, are said to be unhappy over the turn of events.

When Gadkari was called to attend the meeting, it should have been held as scheduled. There was no necessity to end the session in a hurry, they said. They even criticised the attitude of senior party office-bearers who took this decision.

Anna Vinayachandra, general secretary of state BJP Seniors’ Forum, said: “Today’s strong stand against Yeddyurappa will boost the party’s image. It will instill discipline.”   Former party president BB Shivappa said the party should have taken this stand (showing Yeddyurappa his place) three months ago. He defended the sudden ending of session, as it would have sent wrong message to the people.

Another senior leader from Yeddyurappa’s camp claimed Gadkari had betrayed the party leaders by not giving them a chance to air their views about the recent developments in the state.

The JD(S) is running a parallel administration and if it continues, it will destroy the BJP, he added.
