The high court, on Wednesday, gave the green signal for registration of gramthana sites in Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural and Ramanagara districts in a petition that questioned the ban on registration of sites there.

The petition was filed by Hemanth Kumar and two others, residents of Hesaraghatta in Bengaluru North taluk. They challenged the circular banning registration of gramthana sites by contending that the revenue inspector and inspector general of registration and stamps had no authority to issue such directions under the provisions of Registration Act.

The ban imposed to selective districts was a clear violation of one's constitutional right to hold and enjoy property, they said.

The green signal for registration of gramthana sites came into effect after the high court 'stayed' the circular/notification of the inspector general of registration and stamps dated April 4, 2012 banning registration of gramthana sites in the three districts.
