The state budget does not have a big-ticket item for Bangalore as new development projects have not been announced.

Instead, old projects that never took off, have been refurbished.
Chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda failed to announce new projects for drinking water and sanitation, apart from the Cauvery fourth stage second phase project, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year. He announced that a new policy would be formulated for the vertical development of the city.

Gowda announced that the budget has earmarked Rs1,000 crore for financing major BBMP projects, including road, parking and solid-waste management infrastructure. He said five signal-free corridors (51.5 km) would be built in 2012-13 at an estimated cost of Rs426.

Rs200cr for Tender SURE
Important roads will be taken under Tender SURE design norms. The outlay for this is Rs200 crore.

Also, construction of eight parking complexes and solid waste management projects have been pegged at Rs200 crore each. Sixteen methane-generation projects using wet solid waste will be taken up on a PPP mode. But these projects are not new. They have been proposed years ago, but failed to take off.

The signal-free corridor for 12 roads was mooted in 2010. But as the projects are in the initial stages of completion, the 2012-2013 budget had proposed to take up five roads of the 12 to set up a signal-free corridor. The five roads are — Dr Rajkumar Road [from Yeshwantpur Junction to Okalipuram (5 km)]; Mysore Road Junction to Central Silk Board Junction (14.5 km); Central Silk Board Junction to Vellara Junction (6 km); Vellara Junction to Whitefield via Varthur and HAL (13.5 km); Mehkri Circle to Benniganahalli via Jayamahal Road (12.5 km). The seven roads will be taken up after the completion of these five roads.
