SR Hiremath, whose plea in the Supreme Court against BS Yeddyurappa regarding illegal mining led to the setting up of Central Empowered Committee (CEC), has alleged that the former chief minister’s henchmen have been making threat calls to him.

Hiremath, the convener of Samaja Parivartana Samudaya (SPS), an NGO, alleged that it had been three weeks since he had been getting life-threat calls from Yeddyurappa’s aides, who are pressing him to meet the former chief minister and withdraw his petition.

The allegations draw special attention as within a week, the SC is expected to deliver its orders on the CEC’s recommendation that CBI be asked to look into the charges against the former chief minister. Further, Hiremath’s charges come a day after Yeddyurappa got a reprieve, when DM Vishwanath withdrew his petition in the Supreme Court wherein he had challenged the clean chit given to the former chief minister in illegal mining case.

Meanwhile, Yeddyurappa denied the allegations. He said he had not asked any of his supporters to speak to Hiremath on his behalf. He accused Hiremath of levelling charges against him with ulterior motives. He said his detractors were working in unison to destroy his political career, adding that they would not succeed in their mission.

Replying to a question about Congress national president Sonia Gandhi participating in the 105th birthday celebrations of Siddaganga mutt seer Shivakumara Swamiji in Tumkur on April 28, Yeddyurappa made it clear that he would not be participating in the event.
