The high court, on Wednesday, directed the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), state government and the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) to file their objections in four weeks to a petition, which alleged that civic agencies had misapplied and misappropriated funds earmarked for developmental schemes running into crores of rupees.

KG Nagalakshmi Bai and others had made the allegation in a petition filed in the high court.

They contended that large-scale misuse of funds was exposed in a report following an inquiry into the implementation of developmental works carried out by the engineering divisions of the BBMP in Gandhi Nagar, Malleswaram and Rajarajeshwari Nagar from 2008-09 to 2011-12.

The inquiry was carried out by the chief engineer (TVCC), Bangalore, and the report was submitted to the BBMP commissioner.

Although the inquiry dealt with only 153 of the 10,109 files, the funds in question came to a whopping `15,396 lakh.
The petitioners sought a direction from the court to entrust the inquiry and follow-up action with the CBI.
