Dayanandanagar corporator has promised the 10,000+ residents of her ward that they will be supplied filtered borewell water in their homes from April 14.

Corporator Shakeela Muniraju said the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has dug 40 borewells in the ward to solve water woes of the residents. She said the borewells were yielding a good quantity of water and added that 50 mini-pressure filters would be installed near the borewells to filter the water. She said the authorities had entered into a tie-up with a city-based firm that manufactures the filters.

Filtered borewell water will be supplied to the residents’ homes for four hours—two hours each in morning and evening. The timing would be fixed after consulting the residents of various localities. Each household would be charged Rs50 a month towards the facility. Muniraju said this way, the BWSSB would get about Rs5 lakh as revenue from the ward. She said the money could be used to pay electricity bill and the cost of maintaining the borewell.

Jyothi Electricals has been given the responsibility of maintaining the water filters for five years. Proprietor of the company, Jyothi Subramanyam, said the filters would be cleared once a month. She claimed that it was for the first time in the state that 50 mini-pressure filters were being installed in an area. She said these filters, costing Rs60,000 each, do not require electricity to work.

Further, the BBMP has floated tenders to provide solar lighting to 100 houses constructed under the 22.75% finance scheme and would spend Rs30 lakh towards the purpose, Muniraju said.
