Advocate General Kamal Trivedi told the High Court on Monday that the Central government and the state government were working in tandem for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Bullet Train project, and it shouldn't matter if the land acquisition notification for the same was issued by the state.
Farmers of Surat had filed a petition in the High Court challenging land acquisition for the project by the state government. They had argued that since it is a multi-state project, the authority of acquiring land lies with the Central government, and not the state government. The case was being heard by a bench of Chief Justice Shubhash R Reddy and Vipul Pancholi.
He further submitted that when the question is about a project involving public purpose, the petitioners should not have a problem about who has issued the notification. The court later adjourned hearing of the petition to July 18.
